Let's talk about MAGNETS...

Magnets are the hidden gems that make the magic happen.  Let's talk about size, strength, placement, and assembly.

Your official frames have tiny magnets embedded and they may look small, but they're mighty.  But that's just the half of it.  Your toppers need to marry your frame and you want a strong marriage...

SIZE:  The official site uses magnets that are a tad smaller than 5x5x1mm (square) in their toppers.  When we first started fabricating, we used 6x6x1mm square thinking it would be better to have more magnet, but we were wrong.  Sometimes, less is best.   We felt it was too much magnet and the topper was pushing away from the frame.  We scaled down to 5x5x1mm square and they're perfect.  The 5x5mm magnet well we laser not only fit better in the small space we have to work with, but the 1mm (thickness) allows the magnet to rest flush because our core is 1/16".

STRENGTH:  There are all different kinds of magnets.  The most used in this industry are NEODYMIUM MAGNETS also known as N52's.  Neodymium are rare earth magnets, and are made from neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB).  They are  considered the world’s strongest magnet. They are very strong, even when small and are difficult to demagnetize.

Why are they called N52's?  The number abbreviation, N35, N42, N52, or N55 for example, indicates the strength, or energy product, of the magnet grade.  Here's a fun fact...the N55 magnets which are the strongest, are only 6% stronger than N52 magnets...so in a nutshell N52's are mighty and do exactly what we want them to do...they keep our toppers where they're supposed to be!

For those that craft, and purchase magnets beware!  You can search N52 magnets but land on common refrigerator magnets that will not do the job.

PLACEMENT:  So how are the magnets set on your toppers?  When we laser your topper, we cut a 1mm well that's sized perfectly allowing the magnet to live there, set in flush.  Placement of the magnets is so important because if they're not placed correctly, your toppers won't snap into place.

Magnets have a South Pole and a North Pole.  The south pole and north pole of a magnet are the two ends of a magnet that have opposite magnetic fields. The north pole of a magnet is attracted to the south pole of another magnet, while the south pole of a magnet is attracted to the north pole of another magnet.  So the rule is, you can't face south to south or north to north.  They'll fight with each other and your topper won't stick.  We have a method allowing us to ensure that every magnet is properly placed.
ASSEMBLY:  So how are the magnets assembled in the topper?  Every creator has their own method, but here at LaserNonna, we assemble our magnets with a strong hold gel glue.  A little dab goes a long way!  We line up to ten toppers at a time on our work table.  Count the magnets out, dab glue in each well, and fire away.  We have a magnet placement pad that we push the magnet into.  It will flip the magnet in the right direction...we lift it with a sticky pen and place it in the well.
What happens if you lose a magnet?  If you purchased your topper from us, we'll make sure we get you a replacement out.  If not from us, be sure to reach out to the creator you purchased from and ask for one.
